Sosyete Sivil ann Ayiti / Civil Society in Haiti

Epitou youn nan reyalite ki poze vit – se kiyès ki gen dwa pale sou non pèp Ayisyen an? Yon moun ki te pran pouvwa mande pou yon nouvo entèvansyon etranje militè, malgre anpil move eksperyans ann Ayiti.Quickly a reality became evident: who has the right to speak in the name of the Haitian people? A single person that took power asked for a new foreign military intervention, despite the repeated failures in Haiti.

Men, vwa majorite moun yo… peyizan, fanm, jenn, moun kap viv nan katye popilè, pat preske parèt nan medya.        While foreign media began increasing its coverage on Haiti, it’s increasingly evident that it’s still a small number of people who represent Haiti. We see that the majority of people cited are what they call “political leaders” or “the opposition.” As the Kolektif Anakawona showed, there are several components of the opposition. True, political parties have their role in society. However, the majority of people… peasants, women, youth, people who live in low-income neighborhoods, almost never appeared in news stories.  
Youn rezo reyisi atire atansyon etranje yo, yon kolektif anpil òganizasyon sosyete sivil yo, “Komisyon pou Chèche yon Solisyon Ayisyen nan Kriz la.”  A network succeeded in attracting foreign attention, a collective of many civil society organizations, “the Commission to seek a Haitian solution to the crisis.”
Gen yon kèsyonnman bò kote òganizasyon ki ta vle pote solidarite avèk pèp ayisyen nan, se vwa kiyès ki reprezante? Kisa popilasyon an vle? Ki revandikasyon mas pèp la?    Organizations who would like to engage in solidarity with the Haitian people are questioning, Whose voices are represented? What does the population want? What are the people’s demands?  
Nou wè tou nesesite pou angaje sa ki rele ‘sosyete sivil.’ Konsèp la gen yon pakèt sans, epi li se yon kouto de bò. Se vre li sòti nan listwa ewopeyen avèk klas boujwazi a, men pèp la, epi mouvman popilè yo, pran l tou, nan peyi Sid kòm peyi Nò. Konsèp la gen yon dimansyon politik, kòm listwa peyi Dayiti montre sa. Sosyete sivil la ka defini yon ansanm gwoup òganize ki kreye yon vi kolektif ki andeyò non sèlman leta men ONG etranje, ki ap vin jwe wòl leta pi plis de jou an jou nan peyi Sid yo tankou Ayiti.  We also see the need to engage what is called ‘civil society.’ This concept has many meanings, and it’s a double-edged sword. True, it emerged from European history with the bourgeoisie, but the people (poor majority), and people’s movements, have adopted this for themselves, in the Global South just like in the North. The concept has a political dimension, like Haiti’s history shows. Civil society can be defined as a collection of organized groups that create a collective life that is outside not only the state but also foreign NGOs, that are more and more playing state roles in the Global South, such as in Haiti.

Lis la pibliye 21 jiye, 2 semenn apre.  There can’t be a ‘definitive’ list of groups that represent civil society, because it’s a dynamic field. But for this moment, following July 7, 2021, a host of groups are active. This list was published July 21, 2 weeks after.
